Unicode characters are in general divided by office applications into three different groups.1) There is CJK: the Chinese, Japanese and Korean script (also old Vietnamese belong to this group). See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CJK_characters
2) There is CTL: Complex Text Layout, which uses BIDI algorithms and/or glyph modules for instance Arabic, Hebrew, Indic and Thai. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Complex_Text_Layout
